Le Grand Théâtre de Genève is one of the most important lyric and ballet institutions in Europe. Every season it presents operas, ballets, concerts and recitals. The company employs a permanent staff of over 300 people, including all the specialized métiers in the business – artistic, technical and administrative – and collaborates with numerous outside artistes and specialists from associated areas of expertise. Le Grand Théâtre has its own chorus, dance troupe and young singer ensemble, and performs regularly with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (OSR). The GTG has a well-earned reputation for excellence and makes a major contribution to the cultural standing and visibility of Geneva throughout Switzerland and abroad.

A Concours for this full-time position will take place on Friday 23rd June, 2023 at the Grand Théâtre de Genève (Boulevard du Théâtre 11, 1204 Genève, Suisse).
Full-time Contract
Start date: 1st December 2023

- A short video or audio recording of an opera aria of your own choice recorded within the last 15 months, preferably with piano accompaniment. (Please be careful with the sound quality of the recording – the distance of mics, the reverb, etc…/10 Mo max)
- Your Curriculum Vitae containing a recent photo
Any incomplete dossier will be refused.
Candidates will receive immediate confirmation of reception of application, and will be notified as soon as possible of their preselection for the concours. The concours will take place as follows:
Pour les candidats retenus, le concours se déroulera au Grand Théâtre de Genève de la manière suivante :
- 10AM-1PM: preliminary selection (may include any of parts 1 to 5 of requirements)
- 2PM-6PM: final round (may include any of parts 1 to 7 of requirements)
Shortlisted candidates are asked to prepare the following program:
1. La grande vocalise of Rossini, forte, piano, legato and staccato on C, D-flat, D, E-flat, E, F

2. Three arias: The 3 arias chosen are to be sung off by heart. They must be sung in their original language, each in a different language, and one of these must be in French. A copy of each should be provided for the pianist.
- An opera aria of the candidate’s own choosing
- One of the arias from the following list:
– Mozart, Tamino, Dies Bildnis
– Mozart, Ferrando, Un’aura amorosa
– Bizet, Don José, La Fleur que tu m’avais jetée
– Gounod, Faust, Salut ! Demeure chaste et pure
– Verdi, Alfredo, De miei bollenti spiriti - A third opera aria of the candidate’s own choosing
3. To perform the 6 following chorus extracts with score under the supervision of the chorus director:
For the Gounod and Mozart, the candidate sings tenor 1 or 2 according to his preferred tessitura, the latter with some members of the full-time choir in an ensemble of all voices-parts.
