Opera has always been a field of technical experimentation, from 17th-century set animation to modern technologies such as lasers and projection mapping. In keeping with this tradition, the Grand Théâtre and Mapping Festival present an evening of performance, bringing together leading figures from the international scene to reinvent the links between art, space and technology.

Founded in 2007 by Pier Schneider and François Wunschel, joined in 2014 by Nico Merlin, 1024 Architecture blends architecture, visual arts and music to create powerful, internationally acclaimed audiovisual installations. From intimate objects to monumental works, their work explores space through light, sound, geometry and movement. At the Mapping Festival, they present 2048 AD: a sublime dystopia inspired by the world of the film Koyaanisqatsi , live and in real time. An abstract journey into one of mankind’s possible futures, where resources become scarce and landscapes desertified, leaving the world a desert of surreal moments.

ROBERT HENKE (DE): LUMIÈRE III

Multidisciplinary artist Robert Henke blends music, technology and visual art. His compositions, inspired by the raw, repetitive power celebrated in techno culture and contemporary structures, are accompanied by visuals rooted in minimalist heritage and early computer graphics. As co-creator of the Ableton Live software, he redefined electronic music production. Under the pseudonym Monolake, he collaborated with artists such as Marko Nikodijevic and Christopher Bauder.

Lumière III, his immersive audiovisual work, combines laser graphics and sound, in real time, thanks to dedicated software he developed himself. Presented since 2013, it evolves with each revision and will be presented for the last time, here at the Grand Théâtre de Genève. A work in which light and architecture merge to offer a rare sensory immersion.
