In memoriam
Conductor Antonino Fogliani has passed away
It is with profound sadness that we have learned of the death of Italian conductor Antonino Fogliani, who passed away on 29 August at the age of 50. Maestro Fogliani conducted at the Grand Théâtre de Genève on many occasions: Aida in 2019, La Cenerentola in 2020, Turandot in 2022, Nabucco in 2023, Fedora in 2024 and, most recently, Madama Butterfly last spring. He was due to return to the BFM in March 2027 to conduct our new production of La Fanciulla del West. Held in great affection by the Grand Théâtre’s teams and by the musicians of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Antonino Fogliani was a generous and warm-hearted man. His conducting united subtlety and lyricism, precision and warmth. Our thoughts today are with his family and loved ones as we mourn the loss of a great musician.
